Zipper Bow Tie

An unconventional bow tie in the trendy biker-look. It can be worn as a belt, or wrapped around the neck. The loops open individually with the help of the zippers.

Cutting:

1 x Belt: Length, waist girth or neckline plus 8 cm for the head x 12 cm width (finished width = 5 cm).

2 x Long loop pieces: Length 70 cm x 6 cm width (finished width = 2 cm).

2 x Short loop pieces: Length 60 cm x 6 cm width (finished width = 2 cm).

Notions:

2 x Zipper 30 cm long

 

Sewing

Fold and press the seam allowances at the sides and at one end using a 4-cm wide cardboard pressing template.

Take out the template and press again. Then fold in half and press again for a finished width of 2 cm.

Press the belt piece with a 10-cm wide cardboard template. Take away the template and press again. Then press in half for a finished width of 5 cm.

Enclose each zipper with a short and a long binding. Fold the end of the zipper into the binding seam. Topstitch the binding pieces in a contrasting colour if preferred. The finished width of a zipper loop is 5 cm. See figure 3.

Sew the zipper loops on both sides to the belt piece with 1 cm seam allowance. See figure 4.

Fold the belt piece and edge stitch the seam. See figure 5.

Figure 6 shows the finished zipper bow tie.
